Italy offers free accredited nursing courses to tackle workforce shortage

The Fondazione Infermieri, an AGENAS‑accredited ECM provider, has launched a catalogue of free, online nursing courses. The offerings include 12 credits on clinical decision‑making, 21 credits on transcultural care, 39.6 credits on preventing violence against health workers, 12.6 credits on digital health models, 7.5 credits on intensive‑care humanisation, and 9 credits on gender‑based violence. The programme aims to support nurses and paediatric nurses as the Italian health system adapts to an ageing population and increasing care complexity.

Separately, Francesco D’Ambrosio, president of the Siena Order of Nursing Professions, highlighted the chronic shortage of nurses and called for greater recognition of advanced competencies. He urged the use of professional function assignments, stronger links between universities, the health service and the profession, and career pathways that reward merit and provide economic incentives. Both initiatives seek to make nursing careers more attractive and to retain skilled staff within Italy’s National Health Service.
