Italy offers luxury dining at Lake Garda and budget-friendly coastal towns rivaling the Amalfi Coast

Around Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake, a concentration of high‑end restaurants draws gourmets with Michelin stars and three‑digit euro menus. Notable venues include Villa Feltrinelli in Gargnano, where chef Stefano Baiocco serves a two‑star, eight‑course menu priced at €280, and Lido 84 in Gardone Riviera, which earned a Michelin star under Riccardo Camanini. Other acclaimed eateries such as Vecchia Malcesine, La Rucola 2.0 in Sirmone, and Esplanade in Desenzano del Garda also feature panoramic lake views and premium wine lists.

Meanwhile, several lesser‑known Italian coastal spots provide a similar Mediterranean ambience at lower costs. Towns such as Camogli on the Ligurian coast, the island of Procida near Capri, Tropea in Calabria, and the Cilento‑National‑Park area offer colorful harbours, historic alleys and affordable hotels and restaurants. Even locations directly on the Amalfi stretch—Vietri sul Mare, Maiori, Minori—and the Tuscan peninsula of Monte Argentario deliver scenic beaches and local cuisine without the premium prices of Positano and Amalfi. Travelers can enjoy authentic Italian “dolce vita” experiences across these destinations while keeping expenses modest.
