Italy online gambling volume reaches 7.1 billion euros

Online gambling and casino activity in Italy has shown significant growth. In August 2026, the total volume of fixed-odds and card games distributed through remote channels reached approximately 7.14 billion euros, representing a 14.54% increase compared to August 2025. During the same period, player spending in online casinos rose by 37.1% year-on-year, totaling over 306 million euros.

On a local level, the 2025 report ‘Non così piccoli’ highlights extreme spikes in online gambling within small Italian municipalities. The town of Polaveno, which has just over 2,500 residents, recorded over 42 million euros in online gambling volume in 2025. This is a massive increase from the 11.3 million euros recorded in 2024, marking a 272.3% rise. Polaveno ranks second nationally among municipalities with populations between 2,000 and 9,999 residents. The report notes that the per capita figure for the 18-74 age demographic stands at 22,955 euros, though it clarifies that ‘volume’ refers to total bets placed rather than net losses.
