Italy opens 150‑preference teacher assignment process for 2026‑2027 school year
From 16 July to 29 July 2026 teachers enrolled in the national GPS lists can submit up to 150 school‑location preferences through the POLIS online platform. The request covers annual substitute positions and special‑needs (support) teacher slots. Failure to file means automatic renunciation of the assignment procedures, and any unselected locations are treated as a withdrawal of those preferences.
Assignments are generated by an algorithm that matches teachers to schools based solely on the order of expressed preferences, without regard to geographic proximity. Consequently, a teacher who selects schools spread across a province may be assigned to sites that are far apart, potentially creating long‑distance commutes. After the main deadline, teachers who have not secured a role can apply again in the “mini call veloce” period from 14 to 18 August 2026, choosing provinces within the same region to compete for remaining support‑teacher vacancies.
The process also includes a confirmation step for support teachers who have received a family request and a favorable school‑director opinion, aimed at ensuring continuity for students with disabilities.
