Italy opposition parties clash over Ukraine policy in parliamentary resolutions

A fringe political gathering in Milan featured extremist figures who made incendiary statements about the war in Ukraine, including claims that "Zelensky è un cocainomane, non vedi come tira con il naso?" and suggesting that Russian President Putin could end the conflict with a nuclear strike. The meeting, described as an “assemblata costitutiva,” involved former M5S candidates and far‑right activists discussing alliances and the war.

In the Italian parliament, six opposition resolutions on foreign policy, especially the Ukraine dossier, sparked heated debate. The center‑left parties claimed the resolutions were largely similar, quoting Democratic deputy Debora Serracchiani: “Sì, sono sei … ma le differenze sono ridotte al minimo.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticised the opposition’s inability to reach consensus, while figures such as former prime minister Giuseppe Conte, Democratic leader Elly Schlein, and former prime minister Matteo Renzi offered sharp remarks on the government's handling of the war and domestic issues. The M5S leader Francesco Silvestri provoked controversy with remarks about the premier’s attire, leading to calls for disciplinary action.
