Italy pasta prices drop 23.7% over two years
The average price of pasta in Italy has decreased by 23.7% over the last two years, according to a report by the Centro di formazione e ricerca sui consumi (Crc) and Assoutenti. The average cost for one kilogram of durum wheat semolina pasta currently stands at 1.59 euros.
This downward trend follows significant price hikes that began in 2022 due to the invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent energy crisis. By December 2025, the average price had fallen to 1.63 euros, and further declines of 2.3% were recorded between January and September 2026.
Regional price variations remain significant across Italy. Data from the Mimit Observatory indicates that Udine has the highest average price at 1.91 euros per kilogram, followed by Pescara at 1.89 euros and Cagliari at 1.88 euros. Conversely, Syracuse is noted as the most economical city for pasta.
