Mattarella calls for integrated European defense effort

Italian President Sergio Mattarella has called for a more concrete and integrated European effort to address global security challenges. Speaking during a ceremony for the Military Order of Italy, Mattarella noted that peace is being challenged by simultaneous geopolitical, economic, climatic, and technological crises.

He specifically cited the war in Ukraine, instability in the Middle East, and various crises across Africa as factors impacting security. Mattarella emphasized the need for interoperability of military tools among European Union countries to foster common defense and strengthen the Atlantic Alliance, describing these steps as essential for maintaining continental balance.
