Italy: Plastic ban in Girifalco schools and farm seizure in Salerno
In Girifalco, Italy, local authorities have announced a ban on single-use plastics in school cafeterias. The initiative aims to replace disposable items with sustainable, reusable, or biodegradable alternatives to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainability among students. Officials noted that this move also enhances student safety by eliminating the risk of harmful substances leaching from plastic into food.
In the Salerno region, specifically in Capaccio Paestum, authorities have seized a buffalo farm housing approximately 200 animals. The seizure, conducted by the Carabinieri, follows investigations into unauthorized earthworks and improper management of livestock effluents. The owner has been reported for conducting construction activities, including the creation of large paved areas using soil and stone, without the necessary technical or administrative documentation. Additionally, investigators identified a 70-meter channel allegedly used for the disposal of livestock waste.
