Italy police and postal workers disrupt two separate fraud scams
Poste Italiane staff at the Ascoli Piceno office detected an unusual request for a foreign bank transfer of roughly €12,500. After verification, they identified the transaction as a fraud attempt linked to fake investment platforms and stopped the payment. The incident follows a 2024 report that 63% of attempted scams at Italian post offices were thwarted, prompting the release of an anti‑fraud guide for customers.
In a separate case, Carabinieri in Ravenna charged two men, aged 30 and 43, with fraud after they pretended a malfunctioning ATM prevented a young driver from obtaining cash for fuel. The suspects demanded €50, showing a fabricated WhatsApp receipt of an immediate bank transfer. The victim later realized the receipt was false. The men, already known to authorities, were detained and will face charges for fraud in concert.
