Gioia Tauro Port Seizure of 113 kg Cocaine Disrupts Trafficking Network

Italian authorities seized approximately 113 kg of high‑purity cocaine at the port of Gioia Tauro in Calabria. The operation was carried out by the Guardia di Finanza together with the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli, using container scanners and sniffer dogs to inspect a shipment of pellet that concealed the drugs. The cocaine, sourced from South America, was valued at around €20 million and would have supplied organized crime groups. Officials noted that since 2025 the port has been the site of over 4.5 tonnes of cocaine confiscated, highlighting its role as a major entry point for narcotics into Italy.

The seizure was documented in video footage released by the agencies, underscoring the coordinated effort between customs and financial police to disrupt the trafficking chain.
