Italy police make arrests after separate assaults on officers

A 44‑year‑old fan from Palagiano was arrested in Taranto after he invaded the pitch during a playoff final between Gladiator and Taranto, assaulted a police officer and assaulted players, including the team captain. Police used riot gear to intervene, and the fan was placed under house arrest pending trial; investigators are seeking further participants in the field invasion.

In Sassari, a man was taken into custody after he assaulted his mother and resisted police who responded to a 112 call. He was accused of domestic abuse, violent threats, and resisting public officials. He was transferred to a prison in Bancali while awaiting a validation hearing. Both incidents resulted in charges of assault on police officers and related violence.
