Italy postpones August tax payments to August 20 under summer pause
Italy’s tax authority has activated the annual summer pause, automatically deferring all tax and social security payments that fall between 1 August and 20 August to the 20th of the month. The deferment applies to obligations filed through the unified F24 form, including VAT installments for both monthly and quarterly filers, and other contributions, without any penalties or interest.
During the same period, the Agenzia delle Entrate continues to analyse bank‑account data. Although the notification of tax collection notices is suspended in August, the agency’s data‑matching system remains active, using defined thresholds – a 20 % income‑reconstruction trigger and a €71,000 transaction level – to flag accounts for possible audits. Banks must regularly report account information to the tax registry, allowing the agency to compare declared income with actual spending patterns.
The combined measures aim to give taxpayers operational breathing room while maintaining fiscal oversight throughout the holiday month.
