Italy postpones MED5 summit with Spain amid Ceuta migration crisis
Italy has decided to postpone the MED5 summit of interior ministers, a move that signals a cooling of diplomatic relations between Italy and Spain following the migration crisis in Ceuta.
According to sources from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, the decision was communicated to both ministers' teams on August 31. This followed an informal conversation between Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska. While the conversation was described as cordial, Piantedosi suggested that the meeting, which was to be hosted in Naples, should be delayed.
As of now, the Italian Ministry of the Interior has not established an alternative date for the summit, leaving the timing of the rescheduled meeting uncertain.
