Italy prepares new military aid package for Ukraine

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has announced that a new military aid package for Ukraine is ready and will be dispatched as soon as possible. This follows internal political friction within the Italian governing coalition regarding continued support for Kyiv.

Matteo Salvini, leader of the Lega party, has called for a halt to both military and economic assistance to Ukraine. In contrast, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto reaffirmed Italy's commitment, stating that the nation's position remains unchanged and that supporting Ukraine is a necessity for European and NATO security.

The anticipated 13th package is expected to include Aster 30 missiles for SAMP/T air defense systems to protect Ukrainian cities from aerial attacks. Reports suggest Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni may be awaiting the results of the U.S. midterm elections before providing the final political push for the delivery.
