Italy Prepares Public Safeguard for August 12, 2026 Partial Solar Eclipse

On 12 August 2026 a partial solar eclipse will cover up to 90 % of the Sun’s disc as seen from central Italy. Health authorities such as the WHO and CDC warn that looking at the Sun without certified protection can cause permanent retinal damage, even when the Sun is largely obscured.

Local astronomy groups, including the Associazione Astrofili Alta Valdera, will host free public viewings in Marina di Pisa’s Piazza delle Baleari and Peccioli’s Piazza della Chiesa. Volunteers will provide telescopes and binoculars equipped with ISO‑12312‑2 solar filters, and certified eclipse glasses will be distributed, with adults urged to supervise children throughout the event.
