Italy promotes sustainable sport and student athlete support
Italy is advancing initiatives to integrate sustainability and academic support within the national sports sector. At the National Forum of Sustainable Sport in Catania, discussions focused on the relationship between sports practice, environmental transition, and social inclusion. A key panel highlighted financing opportunities provided by the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo to support the sustainable transformation of public sports facilities.
In Bari, Sports Minister Andrea Abodi participated in a study day regarding sports, rights, and inclusion, marking a scientific collaboration agreement between the University of Bari Aldo Moro and the Bari Territorial Committee of the Centro Sportivo Italiano (CSI).
Additionally, the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of University and Research have established a nearly 10 million euro fund for university students with high sporting merit. This fund, managed by the Department for Sport, provides scholarships to help student-athletes balance academic requirements with professional or competitive sports training. Eligible students must meet specific ISEEU income requirements and be registered with recognized sports associations or professional clubs.
