Italy proposes 2027 car tax exemption for vehicles under 80 kW
A proposed change to the Italian car tax (bollo auto) for 2027 could grant exemptions to vehicles with a power output of up to 80 kW (approximately 109 CV). This measure could potentially affect over 14 million cars and motorcycles.
The exemption is expected to be limited to one vehicle per taxpayer, provided the vehicle is regularly insured. The eligibility is strictly based on the kW rating indicated in the vehicle documents rather than engine displacement or purchase price. Consequently, different engine versions of the same model may be treated differently depending on whether they fall below the 80 kW threshold.
Crucially, the exemption is intended for passenger cars (autovetture). Other vehicle categories, such as light trucks (autocarri), N1 category vehicles, and campers (autocaravan), may not qualify even if their power output is below 80 kW. Furthermore, the proposed exemption from the regional car tax does not automatically exempt owners from the state-level 'superbollo' applied to high-power vehicles.
