Italy proposes new funding for social reuse of confiscated mafia assets

A new campaign titled ‘Diamo linfa al bene’ (Giving life to good) has been launched to promote the social reuse of assets confiscated from organized crime. Presented by Libera Piemonte, the proposal suggests permanently allocating 2% of the Single Justice Fund—an unused portion of funds derived from seized assets—to investments for recovering these properties. This would provide an estimated 92 million euros to support local organizations.

In Naples, the inauguration of a new cooking laboratory within a structure seized from the Camorra highlighted the need for greater efficiency in asset management. Chiara Colosimo, president of the Parliamentary Antimafia Commission, emphasized the importance of making access to recovery funds easier and suggested moving beyond strict temporal constraints on concessions. She also advocated for public-private partnerships to sustain these projects and noted that non-recoverable structures should be demolished if they cannot be repurposed.
