Italy protests planned against proposed hunting law reform

Protests are scheduled across thirteen Italian cities, including Macerata and Cremona, on August 29 to oppose a new hunting bill. The mobilization, organized under the slogan “Nessun bersaglio” (No Target), targets the proposed reform of Law 157 of 1992 regarding wildlife protection and hunting practices.

The bill, which was approved by the Senate in June and is currently under review by the Chamber of Deputies, seeks to modify regulations on hunting and wildlife management. Environmental, anti-speciesist, and vegan organizations are leading the movement, arguing against a model that relies on animal culling as a primary method for managing conflicts between humans and wildlife.

Participating groups, including Legambiente, LIPU, and OIPA, are calling for a shift toward prevention, habitat protection, and ecosystem management rather than relying on firearms. Protesters emphasize that issues such as wild boar management are influenced by complex factors like climate and habitat transformation, rather than just population numbers.
