Italy is navigating complex energy and industrial transitions. Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, has called for a strategic mix of increased renewables, advanced energy storage, and a return to new-generation civil nuclear power to reduce dependence on gas and bolster national autonomy.

In Genoa, a new project led by City Green Light and Ferplant seeks to utilize urban infrastructure for renewable energy by converting nine strategic parking areas into solar-powered sites. This approach aims to optimize existing paved surfaces without consuming natural land.

However, industrial challenges persist in Taranto. Michele De Palma of Fiom-Cgil has criticized the government for delays in the decarbonization of the former Ilva steel plant. He noted that 1.2 billion euros previously allocated for a direct reduction plant are no longer available, warning that approximately 20,000 jobs are at risk due to industrial uncertainty and high energy costs.
