Italy ranked best country in the world for food by CN Traveller

Italy has been named the world's top culinary destination in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards 2026. The ranking, based on thousands of reader votes rather than professional chef evaluations, saw Italy secure first place with a score of 96.92%.

European nations dominated the top three positions. Greece took second place, recognized for its diverse cuisine including fresh seafood, olives, and traditional dishes like moussaka. Portugal earned third place, noted for its seafood specialties such as octopus and garlic shrimp.

Within Italy, the Emilia-Romagna region received a special mention. The report described the region as deserving of the title “gastronomic capital” due to its famous products, including Parmigiano Reggiano, prosciutto crudo, balsamic vinegar, and lasagna.
