Italy ranks fourth globally in neurosurgical research

Domenico d’Avella, president of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery (Sinch), announced that Italy ranks fourth globally in neurosurgical scientific research. Speaking at the society's 75th national congress in Catania, d’Avella highlighted the country's strong international standing and the widespread availability of advanced medical technologies across Italy.

The congress features 700 scientific works presented across 95 sessions, including a joint meeting with neurosurgeons from Latin America and participation from 38 international guests from regions including the United States, Norway, and Switzerland.

D’Avella also addressed public perception regarding robotic surgery, noting that while it receives significant media attention, it is a well-established practice in Italy, utilized in 70% of neurosurgical procedures nationwide. He emphasized that the discipline is supported by solid technical expertise and technological distribution throughout the North, Center, and South of the country.
