Italy ranks last in Global Telecom Health Index 2026

Italy has ranked last among 34 markets in the Global Telecom Health Index 2026, released by the consulting firm Kearney. With a score of 52 points, the Italian telecommunications market faces significant challenges regarding industrial sustainability.

Despite possessing advanced networks, continuous digital infrastructure investment, and some of the most competitive telephone tariffs in Europe, the Italian market is failing to convert these assets into adequate economic returns. This paradox suggests that while consumers benefit from low costs, the intense price competition has compressed revenues and margins for operators, hindering their ability to fund necessary upgrades for 5G, fiber expansion, and cybersecurity.

The index evaluates markets based on five dimensions: financial strength, commercial capability, technological level, operating context, and customer perception. While the United Arab Emirates and Qatar lead the rankings, other European nations like the United Kingdom and Germany also occupy lower positions, indicating broader regional challenges in the sector.
