Italy reaffirms commitment to Loss and Damage Fund at UN

Claudio Barbaro, Italy's Undersecretary for Environment and Energy Security, addressed a high-level event at the United Nations General Assembly in New York regarding the scaling up of climate finance. He emphasized the necessity of empowering the Loss and Damage Fund to effectively support vulnerable nations facing the economic and social consequences of extreme weather.

Barbaro highlighted Italy's commitment to the fund, noting a previously announced 100 million euro contribution that is currently being finalized. He advocated for a diversified funding base that moves beyond traditional financial instruments to ensure accessible and efficient support for small, poor, and vulnerable countries.
