Italy releases 2026/2027 school year calendar and exam dates

The Italian Ministry of Education has released the ministerial ordinance for the 2026/2027 school year. The academic year is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026. The ordinance outlines national holidays and the schedule for state examinations. For the second cycle of education, the first written exam of the maturity exam is set for June 16, 2027, at 8:30 AM, with supplementary exams following on July 1, 2027.

For first-cycle secondary school students, exams will take place between the end of classes and June 30, 2027. Adult education centers (CPIA) will also follow specific exam sessions. National holidays affecting school closures include October 4, November 1, December 8, December 25, December 26, January 1, January 6, Easter Monday, April 25, May 1, and June 2.

Regional calendars have been published across Italy, with start dates varying by territory. In Bolzano and Lombardy (kindergarten), classes begin as early as September 7, 2026. Other regions, such as Veneto and Valle d'Aosta, start on September 10, while regions like Puglia see starts as late as September 17, 2026.
