The oral component of Italy’s 2026 Maturità exam is described as the most anxiety‑inducing part for students. Commission members focus on interdisciplinary links, civic education, the PCTO (school‑work training) experience and current‑affairs connections, seeking to assess reasoning and synthesis rather than rote recall.

The Ministry of Education stresses that the oral interview, worth up to 20 points, closes the exam and should reflect the student’s overall pathway. Candidates are advised to prepare concise reflections on their studies, discuss the four disciplinary subjects with clear, logical links, and present their PCTO experience without turning it into a monologue. Practical checks include confirming the commission schedule, testing any digital materials in advance and reviewing one’s curriculum to explain cited experiences.
