Italy reports armed robberies at Sant'Elpidio fuel stations and Ancona bank

In the early hours of 30 June 2026, two fuel‑station self‑service pumps on the Brancadoro road in Sant'Elpidio a Mare were vandalised. The perpetrators allegedly disabled the electrical systems to silence alarms, then used a grinder to break the payment kiosks and steal the cash stored inside. The Carabinieri arrived on scene, launched an investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects.

Later that afternoon in Ancona, a man entered the Intesa Sanpaolo branch on Corso Stamira armed with a knife, taking two employees hostage. After a brief standoff, the hostages were released and the suspect fled, stopping at a downtown optician to buy sunglasses. He was intercepted and arrested by Carabinieri nearby. Police are gathering witness statements and video evidence to determine whether any money was taken.
