Italy reports environmental concerns at Punta Giglio and road repairs in Naples

In Italy, concerns have been raised regarding unauthorized construction at Punta Giglio. Reports indicate earthworks, vegetation removal, and the creation of a new road access for a parking area. Christian Mulas, President of the Commission for Environment, Marine Protected Areas, and Porto Conte Park, has called for immediate investigations. He questioned whether proper authorizations and Environmental Impact Assessments were obtained, noting that the area is a protected Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network, containing sensitive Mediterranean habitats.

Separately, Via Montagna Spaccata is set to reopen following repairs necessitated by a strong earthquake on July 31. The road, a strategic link between Pozzuoli and Quarto, had been closed due to hazards involving a rock wall and an archaeological building. The Naples Prefecture has monitored the restoration efforts, with Prefect Michele di Bari praising the collaborative work of local administrations and emergency services as the region works toward returning to normalcy.
