Regional economic updates: wage arrears, business grants, and employment shifts

Various regional and national economic updates are emerging across Italy and San Marino. In San Marino, the Secretariat of State for Internal Affairs announced a payment schedule for public sector employees to receive 2025 wage arrears, with the first installment due on September 30.

In Italy, several regional developments are underway. Puglia reports an employment rate of 52.5% for the second quarter of 2026, with regional leadership focusing on talent retention and investment attraction. Basilicata's regional council approved a 2026-2028 budget adjustment, which includes 43.7 million euros for gas bonuses.

Local business support is also active. Catanzaro has launched a 2-million-euro initiative providing up to 80% non-repayable grants for new and existing businesses. In the Veneto region, the municipalities of Fonte and San Zenone are offering regional grants and credit access to support local commerce. Additionally, national data shows a rise in productivity bonuses across Italy, though Sicily shows lower adoption rates compared to northern regions. For pensioners, Inps confirmed that October payments will include new tax benefits and arrears for certain social security beneficiaries.
