Italy requires electronic receipts on customer request

The Italian Senate’s Finance Commission has approved a binding opinion on the Omnibus decree (Law No. 430) that makes it mandatory for merchants to send a receipt by email whenever a consumer asks for it. The rule turns the digital receipt from a courtesy into a consumer right, obliging retailers to upgrade cash‑register software, adopt secure electronic signatures and maintain digital archiving.

From 28 July, the “Cassetto fiscale” portal of the Agenzia delle Entrate expands its services, allowing taxpayers to view liquidation notices, registration tax assessments, first‑home‑purchase incentives and other tax acts online. Each document is signed electronically and includes a protocol number for traceability. Access requires SPID, CIE or CNS credentials, and the information becomes available the day after the tax office registers the notice, giving users a clearer view of their fiscal position without visiting local offices.
