Italy rescue operations save fisherman and hiker

Two separate rescue operations in Italy have resulted in successful outcomes for individuals stranded in dangerous conditions.

In Mazara del Vallo, a 65-year-old recreational fisherman was rescued by the Coast Guard after his boat capsized. The man spent approximately nine hours in the water, clinging to a life buoy in the dark. He was located by the patrol boat CP 2092 in a state of advanced hypothermia but remained conscious. The search began after his wife reported him missing when he failed to return from his customary Sunday fishing trip.

In the Valle di Scalve region, a 60-year-old hiker was rescued after spending the night stranded near the Gleno dam. The man had lost his way on the trails, prompting a large-scale search involving the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps, Carabinieri, Firefighters, and the Guardia di Finanza. Rescuers utilized drones, canine units, and specialized topography technicians to locate him. The hiker was found in good health, despite the cold, and was transported to the hospital in Esine for medical evaluation.
