Italy road incidents on June 28 disrupt mountain traffic
On the morning of 28 June 2026, a car overturned on the SS42 near Sonico in the Alta Valle Camonica. The driver escaped without injury and called for assistance. Firefighters, Carabinieri and an ambulance secured the scene and removed the vehicle, but the rescue operations caused long queues and traffic slow‑downs in both directions on this key mountain route.
Later that evening, heavy rain triggered a landslide on the SS24 near the Sagnalonga junction in the Alta Valsusa. Mud and debris partially blocked the road, prompting fire brigade units from Oulx and police to work through darkness to contain the slide and ensure safety. The obstruction also hampered traffic on the mountain highway.
Both incidents resulted in temporary disruptions to travel in Italy’s alpine valleys, though no serious injuries were reported.
