Italy road incidents: tree fall on A11 and crash near Malpensa
Two separate traffic incidents occurred in Italy on Saturday, October 24.
On the A11 Florence-Mare highway near Lucca, a tree collapsed onto the roadway following severe overnight weather. The tree grazed a passing SUV, but the occupants were unharmed. Emergency services, including the Lucca fire brigade and highway police, closed the motorway between Capannori and Lucca Est to remove the debris and inspect nearby trees for stability, causing significant traffic delays.
In Lonate Pozzolo, a car overturned inside a tunnel on the SS336 superhighway leading to Malpensa Airport after colliding with a truck. A 31-year-old driver sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance after being treated at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured. The highway remained partially open with single-lane traffic during rescue and recovery operations.
