Italy rolls out electric e‑BRT in Bergamo and inaugurates BRT trial in Frosinone

On 3 August, Bergamo introduced Italy’s first fully electric Bus Rapid Transit (e‑BRT) line, financed by the national recovery plan (PNRR). The service connects Bergamo, Dalmine and Verdellino and is designed to integrate with existing tram and future rail lines. Vezio Guidobono, director of the local transport agency, described the launch as the first practical step of a broader mobility reform.

In the Lazio city of Frosinone, a week‑long trial of a conventional BRT system began on 27 July, with test runs without passengers. The trial includes a dedicated lane, a 90‑seat silent bus, and strict traffic controls enforced by local police. Mayor Riccardo Mastrangeli praised the new vehicle for its modern design and accessibility. The service will be free for the first thirty days, with an official start scheduled for 3 August, operating seven days a week.
