Italy rolls out senior inclusion programs in Polesine and Basilicata

In the Veneto towns of Porto Viro and surrounding communities, the ANAP Confartigianato initiative "La Bottega dei mestieri" brought together retired artisans and local volunteer groups to promote active ageing, preserve craft knowledge and support social inclusion. The closing event highlighted collaborations with several volunteer organisations and praised the seniors' contribution to the local economy and community life.

In the Basilicata region, the PNRR‑funded project for non‑self‑sufficient elderly demonstrated that home can become the primary place of care. Covering 125 beneficiaries across six socio‑territorial districts, the programme upgraded homes with smart‑home technology, provided daily assistance through OSS staff, and offered psychological and organisational support to families and caregivers. The results were presented as evidence that a networked territorial approach can reduce reliance on hospital‑centric care and advance Italy's reform of community‑based health services.
