Italy school bus safety concerns raised in two separate incidents
Two separate incidents involving school bus safety have been reported in Italy. In San Severino Marche, authorities are investigating the vandalism of a municipal school bus. In September, unknown individuals used a knife or cutter to make superficial incisions on the sidewalls of the vehicle's tires. The damage was discovered during daily inspections by staff before the vehicle entered service, preventing any potential danger to students.
In Vietri sul Mare, local Carabinieri ordered the immediate grounding of a school bus operated by the in-house company Vietri Sviluppo. The vehicle was found to be operating without adequate insurance coverage and lacked the necessary certification for transporting minors and individuals with disabilities. Local opposition council members have formally requested urgent clarifications from the mayor and company leadership regarding the lack of oversight and the risks posed to student safety.
