Italy: School construction chaos and prison staff protests

In Saronno, families and students of the ITCS ‘Gino Zappa’ institute are expressing anger and considering strikes following the start of energy efficiency construction. The project has rendered 12 classrooms unavailable, leading to discussions about implementing remote learning or using temporary containers. Local authorities reported that while some alternative classrooms were identified, others were rejected due to safety concerns. The school principal and vice-principal were absent from a recent emergency meeting due to health reasons.

In Ferrara, prison staff have declared a state of agitation at the Arginone prison. The Sinappe union is protesting against staff shortages, physical assaults, and excessive work shifts lasting eight to ten hours. Union representative Roberto Tronca criticized the penitentiary administration for acknowledging the emergency without taking immediate action, noting that staff cannot wait for scheduled technical meetings in September to address these critical issues.
