Italy sees 42% rise in serious cyber attacks, market at €2.78 bn
The Italian cybersecurity market grew to €2.78 billion in 2025, a 12% increase over the previous year. At the same time, the number of severe cyber‑incident reports rose 42% to 507 cases, representing 9.6% of all serious incidents worldwide.
Public administration became the primary target, accounting for more than 28% of attacks, while the transport and manufacturing sectors together comprised about 12% of incidents. According to the Clusit report, cybercrime made up 89% of the events, with 61% attributed to organized cyber‑criminal groups and 39% to activist‑motivated actors. The spread of AI tools is noted as further simplifying attack execution. Although 83% of large Italian firms now monitor cyber risk, only 48% say they have full visibility over all assets.
These trends highlight a growing vulnerability in Italy despite rising investment in defensive measures, underscoring the need for more comprehensive security strategies across both the private and public sectors.
