Italy sees multiple fatal road accidents in Macerata and Veneto

A high‑speed collision on the highway near Macerata left four people dead, including 20‑year‑old footballer Daniele Francalancia, his friend Nicolas Calabrese (20), Giorgio Franceschini (21) and 41‑year‑old driver Christian Perugini. The victims were travelling in a Fiat Punto that struck another vehicle, and the town announced a period of mourning and plans for a joint funeral.

In Castelfranco Veneto, 57‑year‑old restaurateur Khalid El Gaboubi was struck by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing in front of his kebab shop. The driver, a 22‑year‑old in a Yaris, caused the impact that threw El Gaboubi several metres. He died after being taken to hospital, prompting condolences from the local mayor.

Both accidents highlight a spate of deadly road incidents in Italy, affecting young adults and local business owners alike.
