Italy sees positive net migration of young university graduates

New data from Istat reveals a shifting demographic trend regarding highly qualified youth in Italy. Between 2019 and 2024, over 78,000 Italian citizens aged 25 to 34 with university degrees moved abroad, accounting for net departures.

However, during the same period, nearly 88,000 foreign young adults in the same age bracket with at least a three-year degree relocated to Italy. This results in a positive net balance of approximately 9,593 young graduates entering the country.

According to the CGIA research office, the influx of foreign talent includes individuals from Asia (over one-third), Europe (27.6%), and South America (17.8%). While Italy continues to lose domestic graduates, particularly from the southern regions, the country is simultaneously attracting a higher number of qualified international professionals.
