Italy sees record car garage prices in Liguria and introduces 2026 Bonus Box auto tax relief

A recent investigation by Il Secolo XVII found that newly built car garage boxes in Liguria are selling for extreme amounts, with a 60 m² box in Camogli priced at €282,000 – about €4,700 per square metre. Similar high prices were reported across the region, such as €200,000 for a 53 m² box in Laigueglia and €197,000 for a 42 m² box in Genoa Albaro, reflecting limited supply and strong demand.

At the same time, the Italian government is promoting the Bonus Box auto 2026, a tax deduction scheme that allows owners to recover a portion of the costs of constructing or purchasing a garage. The deduction is split into annual quotas up to a maximum of €96,000 per property, with a 50 % rate (up to €48,000) for primary‑home garages and a 36 % rate (up to €34,560) for second‑home garages. Eligibility requires the garage to be a permanent, adjacent facility within 1.3 km of the residence, and the scheme does not apply to used garages or conversions without proper certification.
