Italy sees record number of driving exam candidates and tightens highway enforcement

The Italian Association of Road Police Support (ASAPS) reported that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport recorded 2,314,213 driving‑exam attempts in 2025, a 3 % rise over the previous year and the highest level in two decades. Theory tests are now fully computerised, and authorities noted ongoing challenges in balancing exam capacity across provinces and combating technology‑aided cheating.

In a separate operation, the Italian Highway Police conducted a large‑scale checkpoint at the Calenzano toll on the A1 motorway. Officers cited 60 traffic violations, revoked 13 driving licences and deducted a total of 255 points. The most common offences involved failure to wear seat‑belts, use of mobile phones while driving, and irregularities in vehicle documents and technical condition. The crackdown aims to improve road safety ahead of the summer travel period.
