Italy cultural spending rises as family budgets shift toward arts and tourism

Italian families are increasing their spending on cultural experiences. According to an observatory by Impresa Cultura Italia-Confcommercio and Swg, average monthly spending on culture is projected to reach 108 euros in 2026, up from 94 euros in 2025. This figure approaches 2019 pre-pandemic levels.

Key areas of expenditure include museum and archaeological site visits (49%), theater and outdoor shows (40%), and live concerts (35%). There is also a growing interest in cultural weekends, with 46% of Italians having participated in at least one in the last year, often traveling outside their own region.

Local business leaders, such as those from Confcommercio Cesenate, emphasize the opportunity to integrate culture with tourism and commerce to boost local economies and manage seasonal tourist flows.
