Italy sees surge in bus vandalism affecting public transport

In Pontedera, a third act of vandalism struck a Navetta A shuttle bus, with seats ripped and plastic waste left inside. The incident comes as the new local transport service, valued at €17 million and set to launch on 1 September, faces growing concerns. Ctm and Cna Pisa, represented by president Riccardo Bolelli, have demanded immediate measures and a technical meeting with regional authorities, warning that continued attacks could jeopardise the project.

In Salerno, municipal police identified the driver of a white Iveco vehicle as responsible for damaging a city bus window on 24 July. Investigators used video footage, witness statements and vehicle registration data to locate the driver, who now faces criminal charges under articles 635 and 340 of the Italian Penal Code.
