Italy sees surge in online banking use while couples grapple with financial transparency
Italian consumers are increasingly turning to modern online banking platforms that provide instant payments, automated expense categorisation, biometric security and real‑time account overviews. These digital services reduce the need for in‑branch visits and aim to give users greater control over personal cash flow.
At the same time, a Moneyfarm survey of Italian couples reveals significant gaps in financial knowledge between partners. While 94 % say they understand their partner’s finances, many admit to not knowing key details such as income, savings, debts or investments. Discussions about money occur frequently—averaging more than six times a month—but 35 % of conversations lead to tension, and half of respondents admit to having concealed or misrepresented financial information at some point.
The findings highlight a contrast between the technological advances that make personal finance management easier and the persistent challenges of financial openness within households.
