Italy sees two severe teen motorcycle crashes, one fatal
Seventeen‑year‑old Nicolas Caliendo died on July 20 after a prolonged fight for his life following a motorcycle crash on the Romana Nord road between Carpi and Novi in the province of Modena. He was found unconscious in vegetation by his father, taken to the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna and remained in critical condition for eleven days before his heart stopped. His parents later authorized organ donation in his memory.
A separate incident on July 21 involved another 17‑year‑old rider in Montichiari, who lost control of a 125 cc motorcycle and collided with a tree on Via Venezia. He was transported in critical condition to the Polyclinic of Brescia and admitted to intensive care. Local police are investigating the cause of the crash, which appears to have been a lone accident.
