Italy selects 30 fencers for 2026 World Championships in Hong Kong

The Italian fencing federation announced a 30‑athlete squad for the 2026 World Championships scheduled for 22‑30 July in Hong Kong. The team comprises 24 starters and six reserves across all three weapons. In foil, the men’s quartet includes Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Martini and Tommaso Marini, with Giulio Lombardi as reserve; the women’s squad features world‑number‑one Martina Batini, Martina Favaretto, Arianna Errigo (her 14th World Championships) and Anna Cristino, with Alice Volpi still a reserve. The sabre line‑up lists Pietro Torre, Michele Gallo, Cosimo Bertini and Matteo Neri for men, and Michela Battiston, Mariella Viale, Manuela Spica and Claudia Rotili for women, with Leonardo Reale and Vittoria Mocci as reserves. In epee, Matteo Galassi, Simone Mencarelli, Davide Di Veroli and Andrea Santarelli lead the men’s side, while Alberta Santuccio, Giulia Rizzi, Rossella Fiamingo and Gaia Caforio head the women’s team, supported by reserves Gianpaolo Buzzacchino and Lucrezia Paulis. The squad will begin a pre‑competition training camp in Shenzhen, China, from 16 July before moving to Hong Kong for the championships, where twelve titles – six individual and six team – are contested.
