Italy Senate Advances Professional and University Governance Reforms

The Italian Senate is set to receive a draft law delegating a reform of professional regulations. Key provisions include reducing the liability period for private relations from ten to five years, formally recognizing consulting activities within professional scopes, and introducing expense reimbursements for trainees. The government has 24 months to issue implementing decrees.

Separately, the National Association of University Students (ANDU) met with M5S senator Maria Domenica Castellone to discuss a comprehensive overhaul of the National University Council (CUN). ANDU proposes a new national self‑governance body for universities with expanded powers, a streamlined composition of five areas each represented by professors, researchers, students and staff, and the dismantling of the current CUN structure. The meeting referenced the approved DDL 2753 on university competitions and called for the abolition of the existing disciplinary system.

Both initiatives aim to modernize Italy’s professional and higher‑education frameworks and will be debated in Senate committees in the coming months.
