Italy Senate resumes discussion of teacher recruitment bill on July 29

On 29 July the Italian Senate will restart debate on DDL S.545 “Bucalo”, a law that creates a double‑channel recruitment system for teachers. The bill currently allows hires from the GPS (graduatorie di posizione sopravvenuta) only for vacant posts not filled through ordinary career entry. The Coordinamento Docenti Precari has urged the Senate’s Culture Committee to amend the text so that GPS hires cover 50 % of vacancies, with the remaining 50 % allocated through the competitive channel, preserving the balance introduced under former education minister Sergio Mattarella.

Applicants who have submitted a request for 150 GPS preference positions can still withdraw their application after the 29 July deadline, provided they act before the allocation algorithm begins in mid‑August 2026. Withdrawal can be total or partial via a link in the confirmation email, and is allowed until the nomination process is processed by the relevant office.
