Italy sets 2025/26 Carta del Docente guidelines and deadlines

The Italian Ministry of Education and Merit, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has established guidelines for the 'Carta del Docente' for the 2025/2026 school year. Under Decree No. 59 of March 31, 2026, the nominal value of the card is set at 383 euros.

Regarding deadlines, funds not spent by the end of the 2025/2026 school year can be carried over and used during the 2026/2027 academic year. However, residual credits from the 2024/2025 period will no longer be spendable as of September 1, 2026.

The regulations also include specific provisions for funds disbursed following judicial rulings. For teachers receiving credits due to court sentences during the 2025/2026 period, the rules distinguish between the academic year the right was recognized and the actual timing of the disbursement.
